Focus Sectors

Availability of key infrastructure is a major obstacle preventing Africa from realizing its full economic growth potential. While exciting opportunities exist in all infrastructure areas, AIDA has chosen to focus on three distinct sectors: construction, transportation and energy, where AIDA founders and partners are bringing significant experience and value, for the benefits of African private or public project developers and local communities.

Rapid population growth has placed enormous challenges on existing, and often obsolete and poorly maintained infrastructure and resources. In many African countries, infrastructure limitations, notably in power and logistics, inhibit productivity. Studies, such as that by the Infrastructure Consortium of Africa (ICA), have shown that poor road, rail and seaport infrastructure adds 30-40% to the costs of goods traded among African countries. Transport and mobility within cities is an increasing concern, as public transportation systems have lagged economic developments, creating traffic congestion and pollution.

Similarly, population growth has fueled the need for housing aimed at all social groups of society. The expanding middle-income group also drives consumption demand, which in turn increases the needs for quality commercial centers.

On the industrial and research sides, countries want to revive their industrial footings, and set up special zones in order to attract foreign investors.
